Are you a small business, an entrepreneur, or a small company? If you are, you may need a virtual assistant.

What is a virtual assistant you ask? And why on earth would I need one?

A virtual assistant is an individual, or sometimes a group of individuals or a small company, who provide off-site (and sometimes rarely on-site) on-demand office assistance for various projects you may have come up over time.

There are times, events and projects that come up in your business and life where you would not logically need a full time employee because there would not normally be enough work for them. You would also not necessarily want to get a temp from the temp agency for the simple reason of economics and training. Temp fees are high compared to a VA (virtual assistant) and VA’s are experienced already in any number of office procedures, project types and skills ~ whereas you are taking a chance with a temp who may or may not be trained or have enough experience to qualify or quantify the needs of the job that has to get done.

VA’s are most often people who have worked in the corporate world already and have many years of vast experience behind them. They’ve built up a professionalism that a temp usually hasn’t yet developed.

Economically a virtual assistant is much more cost effective. They are hired on demand, for a fee that is agreed upon at the start of the project, they do not incur costs like health insurance, training, etc. and do not go on vacation with you paying for it.

A virtual assistant is an independent contractor, experienced and usually with a nice portfolio following them.

The tasks that a virtual assistant performs are varied ~ spreadsheets, documents, scanning, desktop publishing, information processing, personal assistance, concierge services, website services, communications management and more.

The next time you need help with administrative, web, or technical projects, you might consider hiring a virtual assistant to help you out.
